This cancer is also categorized into two groups. There is small bowel and large bowel including advanced bowel. Small bowel cancer prognosis is different than large bowel cancer prognosis. Knowing the chances to survive from this cancer is important for most people.

Bowel cancer is medically known as colon cancer or cancer of the rectum. It affects the lower part of the digestive system of a human. This body system includes the colon, rectum and appendix. It is considered to be the second leading cause of deaths from cancer. Preventing this kind of cancer is very vital to keep you away from suffering.

The prognosis of this cancer mainly depends on the stage reached by a patient. The higher or advanced the stage is the less chance to survive. Stage 4 bowel cancer prognosis has the lowest rate of 8%. The next low survival rate falls under stage 3. Stage 3 bowel cancer prognosis increases from 40 to 80 percent. Bowel cancer prognosis improves more as it goes down to stage 2 and 1. The survival rate of stage 2 goes up from 70 to 85%, while stage 1 up to 93%. Advanced bowel cancer prognosis also decreases as this is the condition wherein a patient gets recurring or worsened cancer survival rate. Surviving from this cancer takes good and early treatments.

The rates to survive from this cancer depend not only on the stages but also to other factors. These include the location of the tumor and methods of treatments. A patient can either have a high or low chance to survive depending on where the tumor has grown. If the tumor has reached the liver and bowel cancer prognosis can become decreased too. Improving the bowel cancer prognosis is only possible with treatments.

There should be proper treatment applied as soon as the cancer is detected. The major method used is surgery to remove the cancerous area of the bowel. If the two open ends are not joined from this procedure, a colostomy bag would be needed. After surgery, a few sessions of chemotherapy and radiotherapy takes place. These treatments can improve the survival rate of a patient. Increasing the prognosis of this cancer relies much on the treatments.

Having a clue about bowel cancer prognosis can give hope and strength to a patient. This encourages him to struggle to survive. Fighting off colon or bowel cancer takes some time and faith to do so.
